Surprise Proposal in Ocracoke, NCFuture Mr. & Mrs. Brokaw

Surprise Proposal in Ocracoke, NC

It was a gorgeous summer day.  Blue skies, calm winds, teal waters, and low tide at sunset with so many ferry’s all throughout the Hatteras Inlet.  I even had butterflies in my stomach.  I was traveling over to Ocracoke to document Ken’s surprise proposal to his now, fiancé, Emily Burke, soon to be….Mrs. Brokaw 🙂  Ken had contacted me about setting this up almost 5 months prior to the session.  The week of the session we had been communicating about final details like the exact time, place and plan for proposal.  I was so excited and honored to be part of such a special and surprising moment.

I drove over the ramp in Ocracoke, finding his truck and parking a ways down so Emily didn’t have a clue that I was anyone but another beach goer.  I walked back through the dunes and found a perfect little spot to duck down and wait for the moment.  Ken and I had previously discussed his plans for when and how he would be getting on a knew so I knew when I saw the box, that was my cue.  I was in awe of this moment for Emily as she felt like they were the only two people on earth.  Her tears of joy and overall surprise of the ring, Ken on one knee and also, myself being there in hiding capturing every moment.  It was so so special.

I had first met Emily, her immediate family, and Ken last year for family portraits in Buxton, NC by the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.  During the session last summer, while snapping photographs of Emily & Ken, I had even mentioned to them it felt like an engagement session because of their beautiful love and special bond.  They both smiled and looked at each other and little did I know….I would be documenting their engagement almost exactly a year later.  It couldn’t have been any more perfect.  It was a warm night, with gorgeous golden light and not a soul around by them, myself and my camera.

I’m so honored and happy to call these two beautiful people friends and be able to deliver such a special evening to them in photographs.  They were so much fun and just in complete joy of what’s to come.  Ken & Emily, I am so excited for you both!  I wish you all the best in the future and I can’t wait to see again next time and watch your lovely family grow!

Love & Cheers,
Caroline
