Backyard vacations, Hatteras style.
Stumbled upon this beautiful heart shaped coral when cruising the beaches the other day. It’s safe to say I’m smitten over this treasure!
It’s amazing what you can find when walking the beaches of our island and if you know anything about me, you might know that I have a special love for coral. I was so excited when I found this piece and I took it as a symbol that at that moment, I was exactly where I needed to be. I was so excited. A couple years ago I went out to the Outer Banks Motel to see my Grandmom, Carol Dillon, and she was asking me what I wanted for my birthday this year and I looked over at her huge display of seashells, coral and driftwood she has found over the years. She smiled because she knew. The day of my birthday, my grandmom surprised me with a HUGE piece of coral she found when she was around my age and I wanted to cry I was so excited. It doesn’t get much more special than that to me.
The coral sits right on my desk everyday and reminds me of my beautiful and courageous grandmother and the connection we share. It reminds me that life is short and no matter how busy I am and may be, it’s always important to take 10 minutes….30 minutes everyday to get outside and enjoy this life. You only get one. You have a “backyard vacation” always waiting for you. I am so thankful. I love Hatteras.
All of these pictures were taken on Tuesday this week when I took the pups out to play on a desolate part of the beach…..were going to miss these empty spaces. But we are excited about summer & new visitors.
